Charge description: Adrian Eseme Lobe was convicted of felony Evading Arrest on September 19, 2013. Lobe, a 25-year-old Missouri City man, was charged with injuring an officer while running from authorities in June 2011. According to Assistant District Attorney Omar Khawaja, the Fort Bend County Sheriffs Office responded to three separate 911 calls made by Lobes family at their Missouri City area home on June 11, 2011. Late that evening, Lobe forcibly entered his parents home, damaged their property and physically assaulted his father. Fort Bend County Sheriffs Deputy Michael Alexander arrived to investigate and decided to detain the defendant. After instructing Lobe to turn around and place his hands behind his back, the defendant refused and fled. Three times Deputy Alexander shouted for the defendant to stop. During the pursuit of Lobe, Deputy Alexander fell into a drainage ditch and broke both of the lower bones in one of his legs. The defendant escaped but was later apprehended after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Testimony from the defendants father and sister at trial confirmed that the defendant was told to stop multiple times by law enforcement while he was evading arrest. Deputy Alexander underwent surgery to repair multiple fractures to his leg including two screws and a rod to assist with the healing process. Alexander testified that two years later he still feels pain in his leg and is partially disabled as a result of the injuries he sustained while pursuing Lobe. The defendants choice to run lead to lifelong consequences for Deputy Alexander, said Khawaja. The jurys verdict values the safety of law enforcement and the law protects those officers when someones actions result in their injury. Lobe was tried in the 240th District Court before Visiting Judge Daniel Sklar. Evading Arrest in this case is a third-degree felony punishable by two to ten years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. In an agreement with prosecutors, Lobe was sentenced to a 5-year probation during which he must attend anger management classes, perform 240 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the deputy. Lobe was also ordered to submit to a drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment as a condition of probation. Lobe is subject to a 10-year prison sentence if he fails to abide by his terms of probation. Fort Bend County Assistant District Attorneys Omar Khawaja and Stuti Patel prosecuted the case. Attorney Mark Rubal represented the defendant.
